At the Captain Bogg & Salty concert. This is our family's favorite band - wherever they play - we are there. It's fun because the kids get to dress up and it's always a great show. Now we get to look forward to seeing them at the Pirate Festival next month!
Ben's work had a family BBQ one saturday. The kids played in the woods, had a scavenger hunt, got water guns and hit a pinata loaded with goodies. Ben got to go tubing and I got to sit and talk. It was a fun day and it wore Avery out - she was asleep on the couch within minutes of getting home.
There are a lot of birthdays in August, and we recently started a tradition of making cupcakes for the birthday person. First up was Paul, then David, then Dad and last, but not least, Bethany.
We spent a saturday driving to southern Oregon with some good friends to go to a drive-through Wildlife Safari. The kids had a blast, being out of their seatbelts, standing up in the sunroof and yelling out all the animals they saw. It was a hot day so the anmicals were pretty lazy, but it was still worth it. After driving through we stopped at the petting zoo and playground they had. It was an awesome day and we wil definitely be going back, when it's a little cooler.
James' first triathlon!
Our local YMCA held a family triathlon that Ben insisted James participate in. He absolutely loved it! He had just learned how to ride his bike without the training wheels two weeks before, so I was nervous, but he did awesome! I was a volunteer on the route so I got to see him bike up this hill. I had watched so many older kids walk their bikes up but James just cruised by me, without stopping. When the day was done James had swam 50 yards, biked 2 miles and ran 1/2 a mile. He told me the exact same thing Ben had told me when he finished his first triathlon - "I want to do it again!"
Two of my really good friends have two boys apiece. So when we all get toegher my girls are out-numbered. So far Avery could care less. She does all she can to talk the boys into being her princes. Gavin (the blond little boy) is her "boyfriend" and they are always talking about getting married. I had Conner and Gavin the other day and I had to capture the personalities in the characters they chose for their game. One of these days the boys will realize how awesome it is having Avery for a friend, even if she is a girl :)
We spent one lovely evening at the park. The adults played Kub while the kids ran around. I love being so close to my family!
We took the Christensens out on the boat for one last decent summer sail. There was no wind, whatsover. We had fun motoring around but it was hot and the boys wanted to swim. We anchored and watched the dads jump in the freezing water. The current was so crazy strong they had to swim pretty hard to get back to the boat. Until next summer!
